FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The book has been included in the USBBY’s 2010 list of Outstanding International Books.
The US edition of The Enemy was published by Random House in 2009 and followed the earlier Australian edition—the first English language edition to appear anywhere in the world—published by Melbourne independent press, Wilkins Farago.
‘We’re delighted to see a book we found before any other English language publisher doing so well in the US. It demonstrates yet again that Australian publishing can lead the world,’ said Wilkins Farago’s Director Andrew Wilkins. ‘It also vindicates our policy of unearthing great books from other languages and bringing them to Australian readers.’
USBBY selects an annual list of Outstanding International Books for children and young adults, which is promoted widely in US libraries and schools each year. For the purposes of this honor list, the term ‘international book’ is used to describe a book published or distributed in the United States that originated or was first published in a country other than the US.
Wilkins Farago has just released Davide Cali’s latest book, The Bear with the Sword, this month in Australia. Illustrated by Italian Gianluca Foli, the book has been acclaimed by respected Australian book reviewer Katharine England as
a magical, non-judgemental, wonderfully persuasive parable about thinking before we act.
About Wilkins Farago
Wilkins Farago has been a small, privately-owned book publishing company in Melbourne, Australia since 1998. We don’t publish a lot of books, so we care about the ones we do publish.
In recent years, we have developed a reputation for publishing acclaimed and award-winning children’s picture books from around the world, many of them translated into English for the first time.
Through publishing the finest international children’s books, we hope to expose children in Australia and New Zealand (and their parents and teachers) to new cultures, new perspectives, and new styles of illustration.
